“Map Your Way to Burnet 2014”

1st Annual Plein Air Competition, Exhibit & Art Fest

September 20-21, 2014

 

Contest Rules & Information

 

“Map Your Way to Burnet” is a plein air competition, exhibit and Art Fest in Burnet, Texas( 50 miles NW of Austin and 110 miles N of San Antonio)nestled in the Texas Hill Country.  Create new pieces during the event to be judged and displayed for sale and/or purchase a booth to sell your previously created artwork.

 

Note: 

 

Competition Painting Concludes on Sunday, Sept. 21 @ 2pm.  Plein Air Sale & Silent Auction will be from 4-6pm on Sunday.

 

Note:

 

 The Art Fest will be open to the public on Saturday 9-5 & Sunday 10-4.  The ArtFest is an artist venue.  Participating artist may include paintings, sculptures, clay work and high quality frameable art. This, however, is NOT a craft show.

 This contest is for 18 years and older.

Cash Prizes for the Competition total $1500.00

 

1st Place :  $700.00

 

2nd Place:  $400.00

 

3rd Place: $250.00

 

4th Place:  $150.00

 

 

APPLICATION PROCESS

 

Plein Air

 

“Map Your Way to Burnet” is a juried event.  All juried participant’s work will be displayed for sale at the “Map Your Way Gallery” located at CaroLees’s upstairs-139 E Jackson.  A completed application and non-refundable application fee of $35.00 are all that is required to enter.  The application fee may be made by check or money order payable to:  BAM(Burnet Association of Merchants).  Mail to Post Mountain BBQ, 312 S. Main, Burnet, Tx. 78611(ATTN: BAM ART SHOW) You may also pay by credit card by going on our   website(mapyourwaytoburnet.wix.com) and using PayPal.   (last 4 digits of your CC # , check #, or Pay Pal checking# or CC # should be listed on entry form to match)

 

Steps to Apply:

 

1.   All artists applying must provide three pieces of artwork for       review as attachments and sent by email. There are 2 ways to send us   your work.

      A. Email us 3 images of your artwork.  These images are used to          determine your eligibility to enter the contest or Art Fest.          Email to mapyourwaytoburnet@gmail.com

      B. If you have a website that shows your work, the jury  can              examine your work online. Please provide us with your website          on your application.

2.   A $35.00 non-refundable application fee is required with your       application by Aug. 20, 2014.  $45.00 if received after Aug. 20,       2014. This covers up to 3 canvases (provided by artist).  No entries   taken after Aug. 23, 2014.

 

3.   You will be notified by Sept. 1 if you have been selected for the   competition.  Please provide e-mail address for notification.

 

 

 

 

ART FEST

 

The application process for the Art Fest is the same as for the Plein Air, although your non-refundable booth fee of $75.00 is not due until Sept. 10. Booth spaces are 10’ x 10’.  If an artist is not eligible for the plein air competition they may still be eligible for the Art Fest which is held on the Historic Square of Burnet for 2 days. Please specify on the application which you would want to be considered for ( plein air and/or Art Fest). Artist will be notified by Sept. 1 of either eligibility.  You will then have until Sept. 10, 2014 to send the $75.00 for the space in the Art Fest. Send payments to BAM, c/o Post Mountain BBQ, 312 S Main, Burnet, Tx. 78611. (ATTN: BAM ART SHOW.) You may also pay by credit card by going to our website @mapyourwaytoburnet.wix.com and paying with PayPal. 

 

DEADLINES:

 

Plein Air & Art Fest

 

Application deadline is Aug. 20.  The application form may be emailed to mapyourwaytoburnet@gmail.com and checks made out to BAM and  mailed to Post Mountain BBQ, 312 S Main, Burnet, Tx. 78611(ATTN: BAM ART SHOW) There is a printable application on the website  that may be printed, filled out and mailed.   Absolutely no entries after Aug. 23, 2014.   After art is juried and you are notified on or before Sept. 1, you have until Sept. 10 to mail the $75.00 Art Fest booth fee. 

 

NOTIFICATION:

 

Artists participating in the plein air competition or Art Fest will include juried artists only.  All JURIED applicants will be notified by Sept. 1, 2014 by email regarding their eligibility for the competition.  Artists not selected for the competition but eligible for the Art Fest may exhibit their previously created artwork for sale at the Art Fest by purchasing a 10’x10’ display area for $75.00 for the two days(Sept. 20-21)due by Sept. 10.  Artists are responsible for setting up, taking down and manning their own space for the Art Fest.

 

 

CHECK-IN (Plein Air Competition)

 

Check-in for the Plein Air Competition begins Saturday, Sept. 20 at

8:00 a.m. at Burnet Antique Mall, 206. S Main, Burnet, Tx.  Bring canvases to be stamped on the back.  Artists may begin painting at their convenience after check-in. You will receive a coupon at check-in for a complimentary breakfast provided by Post Mountain BBQ at 312 S. Main.  This is for Plein Air Artists only. 

 

CHECK-IN (Art Fest Booths)

 

Check-in for the Art Fest will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Burnet Antique Mall located at 206 S Main.  Booths should be up and running by 9 a.m.  All artists’ cars need to be parked in designated parking on the corner of Jackson and Pierce and Jackson & Vanderveer.   Parking around the square and in front of businesses is for YOUR customers and merchants.

 

The Art Fest booths will be on the South of the Courthouse and the East of the Courthouse. Also, East on Jackson Street, if needed.  (You will have an assignment in your packet/First Come/First Serve).

 

The Art Fest Booths will be open to the public from 9-5 on Saturday & 10-4 on Sunday.

 

Note:  There will be 3 Tables for checking in. One for plein air only,

1 for Art Fest Only, and One for Both. 

Note:  Email mapyourwaytoburnet@gmail.com  before you send your booth fee if electricity is needed.  An extra charge of $10.00 will apply (First come/first serve).   Spaces are limited and only 1 item using 110 volts is allowed. 

 

PLEIN AIR SALE

 

Note: Art must be framed and ready to hang before turning it in for judging at 2pm on Sunday. ( No saw tooth hangers please.)

 

COMMISSION

 

All paintings(Art Fest and Plein Air Competition) must be for sale.  Burnet Association of Merchants will retain 30% of all paintings sold in the Plein Air Competition.

 

SALE OPTIONS:

 

       1: Art displayed for sale with a set price set by the artist. Artists retain           70% of the sales price.

 

       2:  Silent Auction with Artist Reserve set before the sale.  Artists retain              70% of the sales price.

 

Art will be displayed at “Map Your Way to Burnet Art Gallery” at CaroLee’s-139 E Jackson)UPSTAIRS- No handicap accessibility. Upon request, there will be a portfolio provided of the newly created art downstairs for viewing.

 

Note:  All plein air art pieces must be for sale.

 

Any art not sold in the auction may be picked up after 6pm on Sunday.  If the art is not picked up Sunday evening by 7 there will be a storage & removal charge.  There will be a return shipping charge if requested to be shipped to artist.  If it is not claimed or picked up by Oct. 18, the piece becomes the property of BAM(Burnet Association of Merchants).

 

 

LIABILITY

 

We suggest that artists carry their own insurance.  All reasonable care will be taken with original artwork.  Neither BAM nor the City of Burnet will be responsible for the loss or damage of any work.  Entry shall imply an agreement on the part of the artist.  This is an open square. There will be no overnight security provided at the show. 

 

On-Star Artists RECEPTION

 

An artists and judge reception will be held at The Verandas Guest House located at 108 E League St. on Saturday night from 6pm-8pm.  Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served.
